While multiple Corvettes were lapping the Sebring race track in the 12 hour race, the car was also being inducted into the Sebring Hall of Fame.
Corvette first competed in the race in 1956 where it managed a 9th place finish. Since then, 231 Corvettes have competed in the race, and 24 of those scored class victories.
In 1999, Corvette Racing was created as an official racing organization of General Motors to race the Corvette in international competition. SInce then, the team has won its class in the 12 Hours of Sebring seven times and its class in the 24 Hours of Le Mans seven times.
“We have been successful at transferring racing technology to the street, especially in our high-performance vehicles such as the Corvette ZR1, Z06 and our carbon fiber models, including aerodynamic, powertrain, chassis, braking, safety and design features,” said Russ Clark, Chevrolet marketing director for Performance Cars.
