As part of the merging process of Fiat and Chrysler led by Sergio Marchionne, the Journey will become the first Dodge model to be rebadged as Fiat for the European market.
The rebranded Fiat Freemont will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March and will then become available in Fiat dealerships.
The Freemont will be powered by Fiat’s 168bhp 2.0-litre JTDM engine, and will become the first rebadged Chrysler/Dodge to get a Fiat engine, which will be substituting the Journey’s VW-sourced diesel motor.
Chrysler/Fiat hopes that the new engine, together with the Chrysler’s 2011-model-year refresh on the car and its wider availability throughout Fiat’s European dealer network will help to increase the model’s sales.
The Fiat Freemont will also become a substitute for Fiat’s Ulysee MPV, a model that has just gone out of production.
