The night before the New York Auto Show opened Grand-Am, DTM and Super GT announced a technical cooperation that will allow DTM and Super GT cars to race in the US. Grand-Am has not given the new racing series a name yet but has indicated that it will likely run as a support race for the new United SportsCar Racing series starting in 2015 at the earliest. The series is also hoping to lure American manufacturers to build cars for the series.
The goal of the new series will be to have an American version of the DTM. The cars will share rules and specification, and teams would be able to buy cars from DTM or Super GT manufactures for the new series.
"The new technical regulations and the formed partnerships represent – for the first time in the history of the sport – a global platform for the manufacturers involved," said DTM organizing body chairman Werner Aufrecht.

. The hope is that the US series would also add some domestic automakers.
"We are currently looking for options that will allow the four rings to be more visible again on the race tracks throughout the USA. It’s fantastic news that there could soon be a US DTM. The Audi RS models are very popular in America," said Audi North America President Scott Keogh.
BMW and Mercedes made similar promises to supply teams.
