For the new model Ford promises it will offer a sportier driving and a cabin with better trim levels. Among the highlights of the new generation seven-seat MPV still contained an entirely new chassis, new engines, an optional all-wheel drive system and an even more flexible interior.

Although the dimensions of the S-Max were kept intact, either exterior or interior, the model gets totally new components. The new vehicle receives a redesigned MacPherson strut front suspension compared to the previous generation and even a new rear integrated link suspension.

Range of engines

The range of petrol engines includes a new 160hp 1.5-liter Ecoboost engine, combined with a manual six-speed gearbox and a 240hp 2.0 Ecoboost engine with an automatic transmission.

On the diesel side the S-Max will be equipped with the new engine 2.0-liter TDCi, with 120hp, 150hp and 180hp outputs. The engine is offered with a manual six-speed gearbox as standard, but a dual-clutch Powershift transmission is available with the 150hp and 180hp variants.

The two most powerful versions of the diesel range will be optionally available with the same all-wheel drive system available on the next Mondeo and the Edge.

Design

The design of the new S-Max was supervised by the European department, since this is a global but still very focused on the European market. According to the Director of Exterior Design Stefan Lamm, customers will be able to identify the design of the new family of Ford products, but still find similarities with the original S-Max.

. The LED headlights have the optional capability to automatically dim some sections to avoid dazzle other drivers.

The sides of the new generation have two strong lines and the rear has more pronounced shoulders with narrow horizontal headlights and a chrome center bar.

The top Titanium versions also receive a rear diffuser with integrated exhaust outlets. Ford also intends to launch by the end of next year, a Vignale version.

Regarding the interior, Lamm notes that for the S-Max Ford has used higher quality materials in order to offer a more sophisticated and luxurious cabin. The model also receives simple, useful and easy to use technology.
