for the 2014 model year. Ford expects that it will be the most fuel efficient, non-hybrid car available in the United States when it goes on sale, but it has not had the engine certified by the EPA yet.
The 1.0 EcoBoost will be just like the European version with 123hp and 148lb-ft of torque, which is 3hp more and 36lb-ft more than the naturally aspirated 1.6-liter engine in available in the current North American Fiesta.
“Most customers are not going to be thinking about the number of cylinders under the hood when they drive the new 1.0-liter EcoBoost Fiesta. They’ll notice an extremely smooth and quiet idle, terrific acceleration accompanied by a sporty sound at high revs, and – most importantly – outstanding fuel economy," said Joe Bakaj, Ford vice president of Powertrain Engineering.
Ford has not officially announced a price for the EcoBoost Fiesta, but it hints that most EcoBoost engines in North America add about $995 to the base price of their cars, which means that the 1.0 EcoBoost will likely sell for about $15,200. The 1.0 EcoBoost has been available in European Ford's since last year.
