Mercedes launched a sportier version of the recently launched GLC compact SUV at the New York Motor Show, the GLC Coupé. This is a model that will rival the BMW X4, Porsche Macan and Jaguar F-Pace.
We first got a glimpse of the model at Shanghai with the GLC Coupé concept. The new model is based on the
C-Class platform and will now enter in production at the at Mercedes’ Bremen plant in Germany.
The new compact SUV from Mercedes shares some design cues with the GLC, including the bonnet, front wings and lower door panels. However it also gets new sportier bumpers, a more angled windscreen, with the roof structure plunging into a large liftback-style tailgate and a longer rear overhang.
The GLC Coupé is 4730mm long and 1600mm high and drives over the same GLC wheelbase with 2870mm.
Mercedes will be launching the new GLC Coupé with a range of three engine options. The
GLC 250 4MATIC Coupé will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine with 211hp, which will be topping the range. The diesel range will include the
GLC 220d 4MATIC Coupé with 170hp and the 204hp
GLC 250d 4MATIC Coupé. All of them will be fitted with the brand's 9G-Tronic nine-speed automatic gearbox and 4MATIC four-wheel drive as standard.
More powerful AMG versions are also scheduled for a later launch. The German brand is also considering launching rear-wheel drive versions and a six-speed manual transmission for selected engines, in order to broaden the model’s appeal.
