held its title as one of the world’s largest automakers with 9,714,652 cars sold worldwide in 2013, up 4% over 2012. It set a new sales record in China with sales up 11% to 3,160,374 cars.
GM shifted 3,234,275 cars in North America, up 7%, and of those 2,786,078 cars were sold in the US, up 7%.
It sold 1,556,754 cars in Europe, down 3% from 2012. Of those, 300,977 cars were sold in the UK, up 11%, and 257,583 cars were sold in Russia, down 11%.
GM sold 1,037,458 cars in South America in 2013, down 1%. Of those, 649,849 were sold in Brazil, up 1%.
GM’s international operations sold 3,886,165 cars, up 7%. Of those, 3,160,374 cars went to China, up 11%.
“A healthy auto market in the United States and China, and very successful product launches at all of our brands worldwide drove GM’s growth in 2013 and helped us navigate difficult conditions in Europe and parts of South America and Asia,” said Dan Ammann, GM chief financial officer.
