Mercedes-Benz has revealed the new SLC, the model that is replacing the SLK name in the German brand's range. The SLC 43 AMG will be the top-of-the-range version and will be part of the official debut of the model at NAIAS in Detroit.
The new SLC 43 AMG will be the direct replacemente of the
SLK 55 AMG. The rear-wheel drive roadster will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine used by the S 400 Coupé. It features 367hp and 520Nm of torque. The engine is fitted with the latest nine-speed 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, featuring Comfort, Sport, Sport Plus, Eco and Individual driving modes.
According to Mercedes the SLC 43 AMG reaches 100km/h in 4.7s, with top speed limited to 250km/h. With a combined fuel consumption of 7.8l/100km it produces 178g/km of CO2 emissions.
Other versions being launched with the new SLC is the SLC 180, with a turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine with 156hp and 250Nm of torque, and also the SLC 200 which also gets a new 2.0-litre petrol engine of 184hp and 300Nm of torque.
Mercedes has replaced the
SLK 250 by the SLC 300 which is equipped with a more powerful version of the turbocharged 2.0-litre engine of the SLC 200. It features 245hp and 370Nm of torque. The SLC 250d will be the only diesel version on the range at launch. It is equipped with the same turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine of the SLK 250 CDI, with the same 204hp and 500Nm of torque.
Design changes
In terms of design the SLC gets a new front bumper with larger air entrances. The new Mercedes-Benz SLC also gets an altered grille featuring the brand's diamond-shaped insert design and also revised headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. New LED tail-light graphics are featured at the rear together with a reprofiled bumper with integrated tailpipes and a more pronounced diffuser.
