Lewis Hamilton converted his pole position to win the Chinese Grand Prix, in Shanghai. The Brit was never challenged by the German who finished in second. Vettel's race wasn't helped by the time lost in traffic after an early pitstop. Red BullRed BullAustria, 2004 > present12 models

's Max Verstappen was third defending his position from team-mate Daniel Ricciardo.

Hamilton was kept his pole position towards Turn 1 at the start, while Vettel had to hold Mercedes Valtteri Bottas to secure is front row starting position. Ricciardo overtook Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen to fourth, while Verstappen comingo from 16th position to 9th after the first lap.

With Williams rookie Lance Stroll being punted off by Force India's Sergio Perez, virtual safety car made an appearance with several drivers, including Vettel, opting to make an early pitstop to switch to slicks.

Just moments after the green flags were waved, Antonio Giovinazzi lost control of his car on the main straight and crashed into the pitwall, forcing a real safety car. The race restarted on lap seven with everyone on slicks and Vettel losing ground because of his early stop.

Behind Hamilton, Verstappen quickly passed Raikkonen for third and then took second place from his team-mate just a few laps later. The Brit increased his lead, and Ricciardo started to drop pace and had to fight the Ferrari duo. Vettel overtook Raikkonen first and then attacked Ricciardo, overtaking him with an outside move.

The German then went after Verstappen, who under pressure made a mistake into the hairpin at the end of the lap and allowed Vettel to go through.

This left Hamilton with a seven seconds lead over Vettel, which he held until the end of the race. Red Bull had a fight between its two drivers for third, but Verstappen got the best of Ricciardo and went to the podium cerimony. In fifth and sixth finished the Ferrari and Mercedes Finn's, Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas.

Carlos Sainz handed a seventh place for Toro Rosso, while Kevin Magnussen conquered this year's first points for Haas in eighth. The Dannish driver overtook the Force India duo formed by Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon, which completed the top 10.
