Honda has unveiled the first images of the facelifted Accord that the brand will be presenting Geneva in March. The Japanese manufacturer will present the new sedan and Tourer variants that have received several changes in terms of styling, CO2 emissions, ride and handling.
In terms of design small changes have been made to both the sedan and Tourer models. Although small, they are still noticeable changes for example on the head lights and bumpers. The grille has been redesigned with the two central spars finished in the same chrome material as the outer grille. This gives a sportier look to both Accords.
At the rear the sedan has also received restyled lights and a light a light chrome garnish above the rear licence plate on most models and a dark chrome finish on Type S grade cars. The new Accord will be available in three different colors.
Inside the new Accord has also been updated thanks to the use of new seat materials and door linings, which give a new look and comfort to the cabin.
Improvements have also been made on the engines powering the Accord in order to increase fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions. The 2.2 litre 150 PS i-DTEC diesel engine was updated by Honda engineers and thanks to the reduction of internal frictional losses they managed to cut CO2 emissions by 9g/km for the sedan with the 6-speed manual transmission and by 11 g/km for the automatic variant. This technological improvement has been combined with better aerodynamics, reduction of frictional losses in the wheels and tyres and reduced rolling resistance tyres.
One of the main features on the new top of the range Accords is the introduction of Active Cornering Lights, a system that enhances the lighting when the vehicle is turning. The light unit on the relevant side will be illuminated when the driver activates the indicators in that direction or turns the steering wheel more than 90 degrees.
The new Accord in markets across Europe in April.
