Korean GP might be cancelled

Korean GP might be cancelled

With the construction of the circuit suffering some delays, rumors say that a possible call off of the first Korean Grand Prix might be at sight.

Since February that the possibility of delaying the race until 2011 has been talked in the corners, although promoter Korea Auto Valley Operation has denied it and secured that the circuit would be ready for June or July.

"The representative facilities of the circuit are in very good progress," said KAVO CEO Yung Cho Chung back then.

"The racing track itself is at 70 per cent completion rate and the main grandstand currently stands at 80 per cent. The Formula 1 track is now visible. It may be completed in June at the earliest."

However a recent report in German magazine Focus says that the works have suffered further delays because of major problems with the construction. To the magazine Herman Tilker, the track designer, showed his concerns that the construction might not be ready in time.

"For the first time I believe that a [Tilke] circuit is not going to be ready in time," he was quoted as saying by the magazine.

With the Korean Grand Prix scheduled for 24 October the report also claimed that Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone should make a decision on the race sooner rather than later.
