The 50s and early 60s were the last gasp on the one-off car in the United States but also created some of the most beautiful cars ever. All three of the major American automakers combined their own engines with handcrafted European bodies to create one-off cars that were sometimes for buyers and sometimes simply concepts. RM Auctions is holding an auction for this type of cars on November 21 in Manhattan and among them is a 1955 LincolnLincolnLincolnUnited States of America, 1917 > present26 models

Indianapolis Exclusive Study that was meant to show the future of Lincoln design at the time.

The Indianapolis Exclusive Study was made to attract public attention at car shows at the time, and it premiered at the Turin Motor Show. Lincoln went to the Italian coachbuilder Boano to create the body and used its own powertrain. One-off Lincolns with foreign coachwork from this period are incredibly rare cars because Lincoln tended to produce its concepts in-house.

It used a standard Lincoln chassis from the time with a 200hp overhead valve Lincoln V8 and a four-speed automatic transmission.

“From a design perspective, the latest group of entries is a terrific fit with the sale, each reflecting unique styling and engineering from its respective period. We are honored to bring this group of trendsetting American motor cars to an exceptional venue in Manhattan,” said RM Auctions Vice President Alain Squindo.
