Maserati Building Three New Cars in 2013

Slideshow
The Kubang is based on the same platform as the Jeep Grand Cherokee

Maserati will begin building three new models in 2013, and all of them will be on sale in the US. Although badged as an Alfa Romeo, Maserati will actually be building the Alfa Romeo 4C, and it will introduce its own Maserati Kubang SUVKubangMaserati KubangItaly, 2011 > present18 photos
. It also has a new, still unnamed sedan that it will introduce later in the year.

The 4C will be build by Maserati in Modena. Concept versions of the car were powered by turbocharged, four-cylinder engine with 200hp and a dual-clutch transmission. Due to a low weight of 850kg, Alfa Romeo claimed a 250km/h top speed and acceleration in less than 5 seconds for the concept version. Unfortunately, Alfa Romeo has not confirmed production specifications for the 4C; so things are still subject to change.

The new sedan, which will likely be a replacement for the aging QuattroporteQuattroporte BaseMaserati Quattroporte BaseItaly, 2010 > present3 photos
, will be built in Turin. Not much is known about the car at the moment.

Finally, Maserati will introduce its Kubang SUV in 2013. The large SUV is based on the same platform as the Jeep Grand CherokeeGrand Cherokee 6.4 V8 SRT8Jeep Grand Cherokee 6.4 V...United States of America, 2011 > present4 photos
. Maserati has also not confirmed specifications for this car, but power will almost certainly come from a V8. Whether it will be one of Jeep's or Maserati's is yet to be seen.

Maserati is currently in the middle of a push towards growing its brand. It wants to sell 50,000 vehicles a year world wide by 2015, compared to 6,159 cars in 2011. The Kubang will certainly be sold in the US, and although Maserati has not made any official statements, given that the Quattroporte is sold in the US, the new sedan will likely be sold there too.

The Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione was the first Alfa Romeo sold in the US since 1995, and 90 of them came to the US. The 4C will be the second Alfa Romeo sold in the US since that time, and it is intended for larger production.

I thought they were gonna keep the Quattropporte sedan. Judging by the mules that have been driving around, it will have a fastback roof, 8 speed automatic transmission and a twin turbocharged version...

I still think that is a pretty heavy revision. The current Quattroporte dates back to 2004. Also, Maserati just said they will have a new sedan. They never said it wouldn't be called the Quattroporte.

I can't wait to see the 4C. As for the SUV, I hope the engine will be Maserati's, not Jeep, at least just for the noise....
