Mazda is increasing its' SUV range with the launch of the new CX-4 at the Beijing Motor Show. Based on the Koeru concept, the new mid-size SUV will sit between the current CX-3 and CX-5 models.
The CX-4 is being launched as an exclusive model for the Chinese market, however the popularity of the SUV market in Europe leaves its' possible global launch open.
The new SUV shares the same prominent front grille and headlight arrangement with the larger CX-5 and keeps the swept-back proportions of the
Koeru concept. The CX-4 is slightly shorter, narrower and lower than the Mercedes-Benz GLC and has a ground clearance of 197mm. In Europe the model would be a competitor of the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
The CX-4 will be sold in China with two Skyactiv 2.0 litre and 2.5 litre petrol engines, which can be fitted with
six-speed manual and
automatic transmissions. The
2.5 litre engine will also be available with all-wheel drive. Inside the CX-4 features the same basic architecture as the CX-5 and can drive up to five passengers.
