After a disastrous return from
Honda to Formula 1,
McLaren expects the
MP4-31 will be able to help forget the 2015 season, where the team finished in ninth place in the constructors' championship. Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button continue to deserve McLaren's trust behind the wheel.
For 2016 McLaren and Honda continued to work together trying to achieve their common ambition: to win. The team does not want to make predictions, but Ron Dennis, CEO of the McLaren Group, ensures that each team member worked accordingly.
McLaren describes the MP4-31 as an innovative chassis, but much of its fate is the hands of the RA616H power unit, which in 2015 didn't have enough performance to fight for the top spots.
Honda says that with the information gathered last season, the engineers made changes to the compressor and other power unit hardware, helping to create a more mature concept compared to 2015.
The British team will be testing the balance of the new chassis with the engine, especially the energy recovery system. McLaren does not know what will happen, but expects a significant improvement over the previous year.
In terms of design, both Button and Alonso praised the aerodynamic features of the new MP4-31, especially the detailing in it.
