Mercedes drove the first E300 BlueTEC in the UK from the most southern operating British airport, the Newquay Cornwall Airport, to the most northern operating British airport, Wick Airport, in Scotland. The total distance was 830 miles, plus the driver did top speed runs on the runways at both airports.
Driver Mick Linford managed a top speed of 136mph at Newquay Cornwall then began the 830-mile journey north. At Wick Airport, Linford manager a top speed of 120mph mostly because the runway is 911 meters shorter than the one at Newquay Cornwall.
The drive took two days, and the car returned 67.3mpg UK fuel economy on one tank of fuel. Mercedes says that there was still a quarter of a tank of fuel left, and the E300 BlueTEC could manage a total range of 1,100 miles.
The E300 BlueTEC can accelerate to 100km/h in 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of 150mph. It uses 67mpg UK and emits 109g/km of CO2.
Sales have already begun in the UK for sedan and estate models. Prices start at £39,645 for the sedan and £41,435 for the estate.
