Volkswagen of America, Inc. has unveiled the new 2012 Jetta GLI, a car that the brand describes as combining “the comfort and sophistication of a Jetta with aggressive performance and handling” of a sporty vehicle. With its’ history going back up to 1984, the new Jetta GLI is the most differentiated Jetta GLI model ever made by Volkswagen.
The new Jetta GLI is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine which generates 200 hp and 281 Nm at 1,700 rpm. This has an effective contribution to the drivability and response of the vehicle.
Volkswagen will offer the possibility to choose between a standard six speed manual transmission and a six-speed DSG that features steering wheel mounted paddle shifters and rev-matched downshifts.
The main differences between the new Jetta GLI and the rest of the model’s lineup can be found on the 17- or 18-inch wheels, the smoked taillight lenses, the revised front bumper with larger air intake, the honeycomb grille outlined in bright trim, and the four-wheel disc brakes with floating red calipers.
The Jetta GLI will be available in three different trim levels: standard, Autobahn and Autobahn with Navigation. The price tag starts at $24,265.
