The first stage of the American Le Mans Series saw Peugeot clinch the first two spots of the podium. The French team cars took the command of the event from the start, with car number 7 of Alex Wurz, Anthony Davidson and Marc Gene taking victory, ahead of their team-mates Pedro Lamy, Sebastien Bourdais and Nicolas Minassian. The podium was completed by the Lola-Aston Martin of Adrian Fernández, Stefan Mücke and Harold Primat
Peugeot cars were the pre-race favourites with Audi being unable to race a modified version of its 2009 car, not fitting the 2010 rules. For the most part of the race the Peugeot team ran one-two and was able to step into testing mode with a comfortable lead over the other teams
The two cars swapped places several times during pit sequences and entered the last two hours of race with seconds separating them. In the final laps a spin on cold tyres by Bourdais would handle victory to Alex Wurz’s car
In the LMP2 category Highcroft looked assured to take first place until a wiring problem kept its HPD chassis in the pits for 10 laps with three hours to go, with Cytosport Porsche and its drivers Klaus Graf, Sascha Maassen and Greg Pickett taking the class lead
The victory in the GT2 cass smiled at Risi Ferrari’s Jaime Melo, Pierre Kaffer and Gianmaria Bruni ahead of the two Rahal Letterman BMW’s, with Dirk Werner overtaking Dirk Muller in the last lap
Level 5 Motorsports and Alex Job Racing took comfortable wins in the LMPC and GTC categories respectively.
