After the fiasco that the British Grand Prix turned into, Pirelli has announced that it will introduce new tires to Formula 1 at the Hungarian Grand Prix and is asking for rule changes in the future. In the mean time, Pirelli will supply rear tires with Kevlar belts at the German Grand Prix.
Pirelli claims that the failures at Silverstone were caused by teams swapping left-side and right-side tires, too low tire pressures, high wheel cambers and the high curbs at Silverstone.
"What happened at Silverstone was completely unexpected and it was the first time that anything like this has ever occurred in more than a century of Pirelli in motorsport.
"These incidents, which have upset us greatly, have stressed the urgency of the changes that we already suggested – which will be introduced for free practice in Germany on Friday,” said F1 motorsport director Paul Hembery.
Pirelli is also instituting limits on camber and tire pressures to keep the tires from blowing out, and teams will be banned from swapping left-side and right-side tires. It also wants real time tire data on pressures and cambers for its engineers during the race.
The new tires for the Hungarian Grand Prix combine the construction of the 2012 tires with the compounds of the 2013 tires. The new tires will be tested during the young driver test at Silverstone from July 17-19.
For the future, it I asking for a winter tire test specifically for tire development and in-season testing for tires.
