Quentin Tarantino's '64 Chevy Malibu Convertible Recovered After 20 Years

. It is the same car that John Travolta drove in the movie "Pulp Fiction."

Tarantino reported the car stolen during production for "Pulp Fiction" finished in 1994. It was found in Oakland, California, over the weekend. 

The police spotted two men stripping a Malibu near Oakland, California, The officer ran the car's vehicle identification number and found that while it belonged to that car, the car had not been registered for decades. The officer handed the case over to detectives who found that a second Malibu has been registered under the same number that was still on the road.

The detectives contacted the owner of the second Malibu and discovered the car had a cloned VIN to make it appear legal. This car had been stolen from Tarantino in 1994 and had its VIN plate replaced with the number from the other car, which the cloner suspected would not be back on the road. 

The detectives are fairly certain that the current owner of Tarantino's Malibu was not involved with the original theft or cloning the ViN, and that he was a victim of fraud. 

According to a 1994 Entertainment Weekly article, Tarantino used the money from selling the script to "True Romance" to buy the car.
