Renault Grand Kangoo offers Adaptable Utility

The doors open wide to let people in an out easily

Renault will be adding to the Kangoo range with the new Grand Kangoo five- and seven-passenger van.

Technically the two cars are exactly the same, the seven-seat version just offers two seats in the third row to add to the passenger capacity. These seats fold into the floor when not needed to expand storage space. The five-passenger version has 930dm³ of rear cargo capacity, and the seven-passenger version has 400dm³ with the rear-most seats in place. Both models offer a fold-able front passenger seat to increase storage even more. Renault says there is 3,400dm³ of space behind the front seats with the second and third rows of seats removed.

The Grand Kangoo is powered by either Reanult's 1.5dCi 66 diesel with 90hp or 1.5dCi 80 diesel with 110hp. The dCi 66 comes with a five-speed manual and produces 135g/km of CO2; the dCi 80 comes with a six-speed manual and produces 143g/km of CO2.

Renault says that the Grand Kangoo has real seating capacity. Even its third row seats are identical to the second row seats in the Scenic. Passengers in the back even get their own speakers. The second row of seats fold down to allow easier egress and ingress for third row passengers.

It is also quite modular. The second row of seats can be folded flat, folded to form a table or removed from the car entirely.

Sales begin in April. The seven-passenger version will arrive first, and the five-passenger Grand Kangoo will come later.
