1,618km in 24 hours, which is a new world record for the range of a production electric car in a day. The record was set over 363 laps on the Aubevoye speed ring in Normandy, France on June 1. The previous record was 1,280km, which the Zoe beat by about 25%.
Renault used 15 drivers to drive two cars around the Aubevoye circuit to perform the record attempt. Both finished the test. One car completed 1,618km and the other did 1,506km. To charge the Zoes, Renault used its Caméléon that allows it to charge to 80% in 30 minutes. The farthest driving car had to be charged 18 times over the course of the one day test.
Planning for the test began in April. In May, a Zoe was taken to the track to create a strategy, and the world record run was done on June 1.
It was performed in front of an official observer from the Guinness Book of World Records.
“This is a superb technical and human adventure. This victory is the result of a joint commitment to showcasing the quality of Renault electric vehicles,” said challenge coordinator Bernard Dumondel.
The Zoe will be on sale at the end of the year and is available for order now.
