in Japan, and it will go on sale in other markets soon. The XV is Subaru’s first step into the hybrid vehicle market.

The XV Hybrid uses a single 13.4hp electric motor with a 0.6kWh nickel-metal hydride battery pack to provide better fuel economy and acceleration. The car still comes with a conventional all-wheel drive system as well.

The engine has been optimized for lower internal friction to improve fuel economy even further. It gets 5l/100km fuel economy (47mpg US). The only available transmission is a CVT.

The electric motor is installed between the engine and transmission, which means even if running on pure electric power, the car can still use its all-wheel drive. The battery pack is located under the cargo area and has no affect on weight distribution.

There is an added multi-function display on hybrid models that displays the battery’s charge and current use. The interior also gets two-tone silver and black Alcantara trim.

The Hybrid is the only XV model available in Plasma Green Pearl exterior paint.

Prices start at 2,499,000 yen, the equivalent of $25,500, but Subaru has not announced official pricing for the model outside of Japan yet.
