The environmental traffic club Germany (VCD) has published the Environmental Car List (VCD Auto-Umweltliste) 2012/2013.
Winner in the comprehensive eco-ranking is for the first time a model fuelled by natural gas. For the first time in nine years, a German car is leading the overall standings. Apart from the victory of the German natural gas model, the top ranks of the evaluation are clearly dominated by Japanese production hybrids. Altogether there are seven hybrids in the Top Ten 2012/2013, showing the increasing importance of hybrid technology for sustainable driving.
The VCD's Environmental Car List rated over 400 current car models based on their climate impact though CO2-emissions as well as the stress caused to humans and the environment from noise and pollution.
Together with the Honda Insight, the Honda Jazz Hybrid comes in ninth place with regards to its environmental record:

With fuel consumption of 4.3 litres/100km and CO2 emissions of 99 grams, the Nissan Pixo stands on 8th place
The Toyota Yaris Hybrid loses out due to high levels of noise pollution. Despite low CO2 emissions, it comes only in seventh place.
The Auris Hybrid is another hybrid model from Japan among the top 10, number sixth in total:
Leader among the seven-seaters is the Toyota Prius+ Hybrid. Overall the model ranks fifth:
In fourth place we find the iQ, a small fuel-efficient car for urban driving:
In the overall standings, Toyota Prius ranks on third place. In the family car category, it even gets first place:
In second place comes the Lexus CT 200h, the hybrid model leads in the compact class:
Overall best is the Volkswagen eco up! with natural gas drive. For the first time in nine years, a German car wins this evaluation:
