Milanese coachbuilder Touring Superleggera first introduced its new Disco Volante at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and now it is ready to actually start building them for customers. The cars are meant as a celebration and rebirth of the original 1952 Alfa Romeo 1900 C52 Disco VolanteAlfa Romeo C52 Disco Vola...Italy, 1952 > 1953.
The original car was based in an Alfa Romeo 1900 CAlfa Romeo 1900 C SprintItaly, 1951 > 1958 with a reworked tubular chassis and aluminum body. Disco Volante means flying saucer in Italian, and it sums up the car’s looks quite well.

and anyone who wants one will have to donate an 8C as a donor car. The Disco Volante is mechanically identical to the 8C with the same 4.7-liter V8, suspension and monocoque. Acceleration and top speed are the same 4.2 seconds to 100km/h and 182mph at the standard 8C.
The real beauty and craftsmanship comes in the body of the Disco Volante, and each car takes 4,000 hours to complete.
The new Disco Volante looks like a modern, smoothed interpretation of the original car. The front of the car has a stretched oval shape with the Alfa Romeo shield in the center. The same shape is echoed in the rear with the taillights echoing the shape of the headlights. The exhaust exits are tipped diagonally to create lines to widen the car. The top is a mostly glass canopy. The body panels are made from a mix of hand-formed aluminum panels and carbon fiber.
The interior is left mostly the same as the 8C but gets leather the same color as the exterior and black Alcantara. If buyers prefer, they can modify the interior further.
The Disco Volantes are purely built to order and have received approval has a small series road car by the EU. Touring Superleggera will not disclose even base prices for the car. It guarantees that each order will be fulfilled within six months of receiving the 8C donor car. Because the mechanicals remain intact, service can be done at Alfa RomeoAlfa RomeoItaly, 1910 > present108 models
