, the S60L, has gone into production in Chengdu, China. The car will only be sold in China and is expected to boost Volvo’s sales in the important market, which it calls its second home.

“The official start of series production in Chengdu is only the latest of many milestones we have achieved in recent years. Helped by our strong product portfolio, our highly competent organization in China is determined to book many more successes in the future and the outlook for Volvo Cars in China is indeed very bright,” said Lars Danielson, Senior Vice President Volvo Cars China Operations.

The S60L will make its public debut at the Guangzhou Motor Show on November 21 and go on sale very soon afterward. It is the first car that Volvo is building in China.

Sales in China are up 40% for Volvo so far this year, and it has established 150 dealers there. It is part of Volvo’s plan to boost global sales to 800,000 units globally.

In addition to the Chengdu assembly plant, Volvo has an engine factory in Zhangjiakou. In total it has over 2,000 employees in China.
