continues to expand its Cross Country range. After recently launching the V60 Cross Country the Swedish brand is preparing to unveil the S60 Cross Country at the Detroit Motor Show (NAIAS).
This is the first time in the automotive industry that a brand decides to handle SUV characteristics to a sedan model, but Volvo believes that this option favors its model range expansion.
Like the V60 Cross Country, the new S60 Cross Country receives a 65mm higher ground clearance and the same traction all-four wheel technology. This makes the S60 Cross Country the only sedan with all-terrain characteristics on the market. The model will also be sold with front-wheel drive in Europe and selected markets.
According to Alain Visser, Volvo's Vice President Sales Senior, Marketing and Customer Service, the new model will be able to attract customers who are looking for an exciting and functional sedan, while allowing to enjoy the advantages of SUV features.
The S60 Cross Country can be equipped with 18 and 19 inches wheels that allow to offer a greater comfort in driving and a more all-terrain look, reduce road noise and add increased wheel protection when needed.
Once it reaches the market, the S60 Cross Country will be offered with a 250hp T5 petrol engine with all-wheel drive, a 190hp D4 diesel engine with front-wheel drive, based on the new drive-e architecture, the latter thought for European markets. The D4 all-wheel drive version will also be released based on the of five-cylinder 2.4l diesel engine.
After the scheduled debut for NAIAS next week, the Volvo S60 Cross Country should hit the market in early summer.
