GT-R Track Pack Premium Edition (Japan, 2012)

In 2012 Nissan launched the Track Pack for the GT-R. It combines the lighter, forged 20in Rays wheels with better brakes, removed back seats, a new suspension setup and revised interior. While totally street legal, the Track Pack is meant for drivers who want to drive to the track, be competitive and drive home.

The suspension for the Track Pack was developed by Nissan development driver Toshio Suzuki. It includes stiffer springs and adjustable, Bilstein shock absorbers. Nissan admits that almost all compliance has been dialed out of the suspension in favor of a hardcore track setup. The Track Pack is not going to be very road friendly. It also added the 20in, forged Rays wheels from the Spec-V and Dunlop SP MAXX GT600 DSST CTT run-flat tires. Nissan also fitted a switch that drastically softens the dampers to make the car more livable on the road.

Nissan also tuned the brakes to last longer and reduce stopping distances. It fitted a carbon fiber air intake low at the front that sends cooling air directly to the brakes. It also included rear brake cooling ducts to do the same for the back. It claims that these ducts reduce brake temperatures by 50°. The Brembo brake discs and monoblock calipers remain the same as the regular car.

Inside, the biggest change made was to remove the rear seat to cut 14kg from the car. It also re-upholstered the seats with a fabric it calls Magic-cloth. It is a high-friction fabric that sticks to drivers and keeps them in the seat. It was first used in the seats on Nissan's Group C race cars. Standard features include a 30GB hard drive-based sound system with navigation, multifunction display and backup camera

There are two options available on the track package: a carbon fiber rear spoiler and a titanium exhaust. Both items cut weight further, but Nissan says that the exhaust requires special maintenance before and after track driving.

Power remains the same as the 2012 GT-R with 550ps and 632Nm and six-speed dual clutch transmission. With the weight loss, Nissan claims the Track Pack accelerates to 100km/h in 2.8 seconds, which is actually the same as the standard car.
