Insignia OPC Automatic (Germany, 2011)

In 2011 Opel launched this version of its top model Insignia OPC with six-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive high-performance model with a power output of 325 hp is available for the four-door notchback, the five-door hatchback and the Sports Tourer bodies.

The adaptive transmission control unit is connected to the mechatronic FlexRide chassis system which adapts damping and other driving functions to drivers’ preferences. The driver is able to choose between a default standard mode, for all-round performance for everyday driving and a special Sport mode. In this case the chassis suspension stiffens and reduces body roll for more agility.

To get the chassis in high-performance mode, with a more direct steering and a more responsive throttle the OPC mode must be selected. The OPC automatic transmission’s shifting character adapts to prevailing driving conditions in the standard and sport modes. On the OPC mode shifting points are around maximum rpm during heavy acceleration and downshifting is very dynamic when braking heavily.

Although it features a different transmission the Opel Insignia OPC maintains driving performance, consumption and emission levels practically identical to the manual version. All the variants reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h. The sedan version accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. In terms of consumption and CO2 emissions, the sedan version has a fuel consumption of 10.7 l/100 km, representing 251 g/km.
