The 3008 Hybrid4 Peugeot is the first full diesel hybrid vehicle ever to feature in the automotive market. Thanks to the hybridization of the 2.0 litre HDi FAP 120 kW / 163 bhp with the 27 kW/37 bhp electric engine, Peugeot claims to have managed to keep the high level specification and to reduce the fuel consumption by 35%. The 3008 Hybrid4 has a consumption of 3.8 litres/100km which represents CO2 emissions of 99g/km.
The full diesel hybrid vehicle is the result of a project that involved the engineers at Peugeot in order to obtain a car that represents the environmental demands of the make but also keep providing pleasure to whom is driving it.
At the front the 3008 Hybrid is powered by a 1997cc disesel engine with a power output of 163 bhp and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at 1580 rpm. At the rear a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor is incorporated in the multi-arm rear suspension. Together they produce a maximum combined power output that can reach 147 kW (200 bhp) thanks to the combination of the 120 kW (163 bhp) from the 2.0 litre HDi FAP diesel engine and the temporary peak of the electric motor (27 kW, or 37 bhp).
The energy to the electric motor is supplied by Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries that are located under the boot sill, close to the powertrain. The 3008 Hybrid4 also features an energy recovery system that enables kinetic energy to be transformed into electrical energy to recharge the Ni-MH batteries during deceleration. Thanks to this technology the driver is able to use “free” energy and at the same time reduce fuel consumption.
