In 1934, Peugeot introduced the 401 at the Paris Motor Show. The mid-size model was offered in eleven different body types an production lasted until 1935.
It was equiped with a 1.7l engine, based on that of the 301 model, which made 44hp. Variants offered were the 401 D, 401 DL, and 401 DLT.
A special, and particularly innovative, version was the Eclipse with a foldable metal roof. In total 79 Peugeot 401 Eclipses were built. The Eclipse technology was later also available with the 301 and 601 models.
