Piper cars was founded in 1966 by George Henrotte and Bob Gayler. The company changed hands several times: Brian Sherwood took over Piper race and car production and after his death two employees, Bill Atkinson and Tony Waller, bought the company. Before this, Piper was involved in motorsporst and participated in races like Formula 1 and Le Mans. When Atkinson and Waller took control, they focused on road cars, and ended racing activities.
