SsangYong Motor Company was established in Seoul, South Korea, in 1954, under the name of Hadonghwan Motor Company.  SsangYong Motor specialized in jeep and special purpose vehicles building. In 1977 The company’s name was changed to  Dong-A Motor and in  1988, after being taken over by the Ssangyong Business Group, the company adopted the name  SsangYong Motor.  In 1991 SsangYong Motor entered into a strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz AG and enlarged its activities to light commercial vehicles and luxury passenger cars, sports utility vehicles and recreational vehicles.
