The 911 model is none other than a 2-door sports car produced by Porsche AG. Just like a typical Porsche model, it is built in a slightly arched frame, even through the large number of modifications it has experienced along its many years of existence. It has also been made in Cabriolet and Targa versions.
Larger and clearly more sophisticated than Porsche’s previous models, the rear-engined 911 was said to be the main opponent to the Jaguar E Type, due to its powerful features and quality reputation. In fact, this model was more like a sports sort of upgrade of the Volkswagen Beetle, with which it shares its rear-engine arrangement. Indeed, it has turned out as one of the most successful competing cars, particularly due to some versions, like the potent 935.
The Porsche 911 entered the list of the international survey that elected the Car of the Century, having been chosen as the fifth most influent car of the 20th century. Automobile Magazine elected this model as number 2 on their “100 Coolest Cars” list.
The 911 model has revealed itself, over the decades, as a precursor of the superior technology afterwards used on the other Porsche models. Since 1997, the 911 models abandoned the air-cooled system of their engines, replacing those with modern water-cooled ones until the present day.
