In 2010 Renault revealed a new concept car: the DeZir. The two-seater coupe concept made its world debut at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and was a demonstration of future design cues for Renault's models.

The Dezir is powered by an electric motor, trying to prove that love for cars and environmental concern can be compatible. With a design team led by Laurens van den Acker, the DeZir was the first concept car in a sequence to give a preview of Renault's Design vision. The front-end design of the concept car was a preview of all future Renault models. The gull-wing doors are another characteristic feature of the DeZir.

The DeZir concept car is powered by an electric motor mounted in a mid-rear position to optimize weight distribution over the front and rear wheels. Its power is handled by a vertically-mounted 24kW/h lithium-ion battery located behind the benchseat, providing a range of 160km.

Although the basic motor is the same as the unit used for Renault's production electric cars, an evolution has grown its power and torque to 110kW (150 hp) and 226Nm respectively. Thanks to the power of its engine and its lightweight body made from Kevlar the DeZir is able to reach 100 km/h in five seconds.
