In 2004 at the Geneva Motor Show, Renault unveiled the Modus, its mini MPV model. The Renault Modus is built in Valladolid, Spain since September 2004.

The Modus shares with Clio its platform and can be described as a taller version of the supermini model. The Modus also shares with the Clio most of its engine range and was originally marketed as "a higher-range alternative to the Twingo and Clio", targeting people who want the practicality and versatility of the larger Renault Scénic but without the added size.

In 2008 Renault unveiled the Grand Modus, a vehicle with an extended length of 4,034 mm and a boot volume of 410 litres.
