The Renault Twingo is a three-door hatchback city car that was first unveiled at the 1992 Paris Motor Show. Its name is a mixture of the words "Twist", "Swing" and "Tango".

The Twingo reached the market in 1993. The second generation Twingo was launched in Summer 2007.

Patrick le Quément was Renault's chief designer when Twingo was designed and he believed that the model was a great risk, but a greater risk was Renault not taking any risks, after seeing its market share because of the failures with the Renault 9 and 11.
