The third generation Twingo was developed entirely from scratch and drew inspiration from the original Twingo and Renault 5. Based on the same platform that originates the new Smart fortwo and forfour one of the main novelties of the new Twingo is the use of a rear engine.
Placing the engine on the back is a significant advantage in a small car as it releases the front axle and allows strongly to improve the turning circle. The Twingo has, therefore, surprising maneuverability. The rear engine architecture also saves space on board. With a shorter front and wheels positioned on the 4 corners, the Twingo has an interior space and a wheelbase that could compete with models from an upper segment.
