The original Rover Company was formed in 1904 at the English city of Coventry, following a decision from the company to enter the automotive industry.
The Rover brand went through numerous management changes throughout its lifetime, having undergone nationalization, mergers and consequent divisions, for several times. The British carmaker has managed to keep his identity almost intact throughout the decades, even though Rover has had quite a few companies as its owners, namely the Leyland Motor Corporation and its subsequent evolutions, BMW, Ford and ultimately the Indian car group Tata Motors.
The British carmaker endured severe financial complications and, inevitably, fell into insolvency in 2005. No more Rover-badged vehicles have been produced ever since.
