General Characteristics

The first generation Cayman was unveiled on May 2005, but its public presentation only took place in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The first version launched was the sportier Cayman S. The standard version of the Cayman would only reach the market on July 2006.

The Cayman shared its mid-engined platform and several components with the second generation BoxsterBoxster Gen.2 [987]Porsche Boxster Gen.2 [987]Germany, 2004 > 201221 versions

. The front fenders and trunk lid, side doors, headlights, taillights and forward portion of the interior on both models were identical.

. One of the differences between the Cayman and the Boxster is the large hatchback for access to luggage areas on top of and in the back of the engine cover.

The suspension design is fundamentally the same as that of the Boxster, but features revised settings which are used to the increase in chassis stiffness resulting from the Cayman's fixed roof.

The first generation Cayman ceased production in November 2011.
