History, Development and General Characteristics

The first generation of the Seat Ibiza, launched in 1985, was very influenced by the previous Seat Ronda, a model that was drawn from the Fiat Ritmo.
This first series of Ibiza vehicles obtained a modest success in sales, as it suffered from serious problems in build quality and steering, while not being quite reliable.
Nevertheless, the first of the Seat Ibiza series lasted until 1993.

The Seat Ibiza Mk1 has an engine range that starts at a modest 0.9-liter and goes up to a 1.7-liter petrol-powered unit, plus a 1.7-liter diesel unit. The engine is placed in the front of the car, which is also driven by its front wheels.
The maximum speed that an Ibiza Mk1 has been capable is 135 mi/h (217 km/h), thanks to a maximum output of 154 hp.
It has a manual transmission that runs through a 5-speed gearbox.

Body and Design

The first of all Ibizas was conceived by the renowned Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who created the basis for the classic styling lines that we identify in the Ibiza. Thus, the Seat Ibiza is considered to have been given an “Italian styling”.
This was the first car from Seat that didn’t depend on Fiat; therefore it didn’t share any of its bodyshell features with Fiat cars like previous Seats did.
The Seat Ibiza Mk1 was a hatchback that could be purchased either with 3 or 5 doors.
