The Corolla E120 is the ninth generation of the Toyota model that was released in 2001. The new car featured sharper styling lines and superior technology so it could be apt to enter the new millennium (21st century). In Southeast Asia the E120 and E130 series Corolla is commercialized as the Corolla Altis. This car is supposed to satisfy several market categories, as it is built in so diverse trim levels that range from easily affordable to premium versions, thus being considered a “global”, versatile and popular car. In 2005, 30 million copies of the Corolla had been built. Toyota completely ceased worldwide production of the ninth generation Corolla in 2008.

The Corolla E120 and E130 are built either with a 1.4-liter gasoline or a 2.2-liter diesel front engine, based on front-wheel drive. Naturally aspirated engines could produce a minimum of 95 hp up to a maximum of 189 hp. The turbocharged engines produced from 89 to 114 hp. And the supercharged “Compressor” variant could deliver up to 215 hp. 5- and 6-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmissions could be built on the ninth generation Corollas.
