Shelby GT500 Super Snake (United States of America, 2013-present)

For the 2013 model year, Shelby American is introducing an upgraded version of the GT500 Super Snake with up to 850hp. 

The Super Snake comes in two tunes - a base model with 662hp or an upgraded version with 850hp. The cars all start as standard Ford Mustang Shelby GT500s meaning that buyers can order the car in any color available from Ford. Shelby will even make the Super Snake in a convertible if the buyer wishes. It will build 500 Super Snakes for 2013. 

"When Ford launched the 2013 Shelby GT500, we were bombarded with requests for Shelby American to offer a Super Snake package for the car. Our team worked closely with Ford Racing and other key partners to develop our new fire breathing snake. The result is the most powerful base model Super Snake ever at 662 horsepower, which is available at prices lower than previous models. By checking off a few boxes in the series of optional equipment, you can take home a street-legal 850 horsepower version that runs on pump gas," said John Luft, president of Shelby American.

The standard car uses the GT500's 662hp and 631lb-ft supercharged V8 but offers two optional superchargers, one from Ford Racing and the other from Keane Bell, that boost power to 850hp. The cars also get an upgraded suspension, new radiator, heat exchanger, aluminum cooling tanks, Borla exhaust, Willwood brakes, functional brake cooling ducts, fiberglass hood with stripes and Carroll Shelby's signature embroidered on the headrests and floor mats. 

Shelby allows buyers to customize the Super Snake to suit their needs. It is offering a rear or front and rear wide body kit that allows for 13in wide wheels to be fitted. It also offers a variety of stripe colors for the car and two wheel colors. 

The 662hp version costs $28,995, which is in addition to the $54,200 base price for the GT500 Coupe or $59,200 for the convertible from Ford. The 850hp version costs $39,995 in addition to the price of the GT500.
