The Suzuki Grand Vitara is a 3- to 5-door SUV produced since 1988. It is currently marketed in its third generation. The model is based on components of the GM Theta platform but differs significantly from vehicles based entirely on that platform. The Grand Vitara has a longitudinally-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. The 3-door version is sold in some markets as "Vitara" only and the 5-door version is kown in some countries as "Grand Nomade". The current generation was launched in 2005 and received a facelift in 2008. Two new engines became available: the 2.4L in-line four produces 122 kW (166 PS; 164 hp), the V6 produces 165 kW (224 PS; 221 hp) and the 1.9L Turbo-Diesel has seen improvements in terms of efficiency. Four-wheel drive is available for all versions.
