Fridays are often slow days for automotive news. The automakers do not want to release a press release on a day when most people are looking forward to the weekend. But we want to improve your weekend, here at Autoviva. So we have complied a small list of some of our favorite automotive sounds. Keep in mind this list is no where near definitive. There are tons of other cars we could have included and maybe we will next week. First a brief video of the Mazda 787B. It is still the only Japanese car to take an overall win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. An interesting fact about these cars, they used a variable length intake that the driver could adjust from the cockpit. This basically let the driver control power and fuel economy from the cockpit. 

In the late 60s and early 70s Matra constructed a series of V12-powered sports cars to campaign at Le Mans. These cars used a 3.0 liter V12 making around 385hp-420hp depending on year. That is pretty impressive even by today's standards. The MS670 cars won at Le Mans three years in a row in 1972,1973 and 1974. 

Easily one of the most beautiful road cars ever made. The Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Stradale was powered by a 2.0 liter V8 230hp. Just 18 road cars were produced, but it had a very successful racing career with versions being campaigned from 1966 to 1977.

The Honda RA272 is another car with a fantastic sound and great provenance. Powered by a 1.5 liter V12 making 230hp at 13,000rpm. It was the first Honda ever to win a Formula 1 race.  

The Lexus LFA is by far the newest car on this list, but it deserves a place. There is a rumor going around that it uses a digital tachometer because it revs too fast for a mechanical tach to keep up. Its 4.8 liter V10 produces 540hp. Its engine will rev from idle to redline in .6 of a second. Also with 500 produced, it is by far the most common vehicle on this list.  

This last pick is kind of a cheat. It's a motorcycle. The Honda RC174 is way too cool not to include. It used a four-stroke, inline-6 engine with 300cc of displacement and a seven-speed gearbox. It made 65hp at 17,000rpm. To put it in perspective that is 222hp per liter.
