BMW Creates Vision Gran Turismo Concept Exclusively for Gran Turismo 6

It exists only virtually and will debut in the game

The Vision Gran Turismo Concept exists only virtually and will debut in Gran Turismo 6

Gran Turismo did not invent the racing sim in 1998 - not even close - but it brought it away from the computer and onto the gaming console. Before Gran Turismo, racing games on consoles were all arcade racers. This is partially due to technical limits because it was basically impossible to program realistic differences in handling onto sprite-based, 16-bit consoles. Polyphony Digital and Sony took a chance on bringing a more realistic racing sim to the PlayStation with real cars, real tracks and more realistic handling, and it was a success. Group Design is showing how important Gran Turismo has become by creating an exclusive concept for Gran Turismo 6.

The BMW Vision Gran Turismo concept is a futuristic car that exists only digitally that will be available to race in Gran Turismo 6 when it goes on sale later this year.

The car is supposed to mix racing styling queues with the design freedom of a car that never has to be built in the real world. In general, it looks like a modernized M1 with body panels cut with a machete. The car is full of sharp edges cut from the body. The front is monopolized by air intakes including the BMW kidney grill, brake cooling ducts and two big ducts under the grill. At the rear, there is a massive wing to keep the car planted.

BMW is not saying about what type of engine is in the virtual car, but it says that the car will be challenging for the top lap times in the game.

“Vision Gran Turismo offers an impressively creative platform for the innovative presentation of the BMW Design vision developed exclusively for the game,” said Andreas-Christoph Hofmann, head of brand communication at BMW.
