The new car is no longer based on the 2008, like the previous 2008 DKRPeugeot 2008 DKRFrance, 2015 > 2015. The departure point is the new generation 3008 which will be making its world debut at the Paris Motor Show. Still team director Bruno Famin says that the car is an evolution and not a revolution like it would seem from the all-new look.

 

“Our goal was to take the weaker points of the existing car and make them stronger, while capitalising on all the existing strengths to improve them still further,” said Famin.

 

Tuned by Peugeot Sport the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel that will be fitted in the 3008 DKR will have an output cut by 20hp due to the imposition of a smaller air restrictor. Peugeot has kept the Dakar car rear-drive layout for better reliability and serviceability.

 

Extra focus has gone on mechanical integrity and electronic robustness in order to make the 3008 DKR tough enough for the 10,000 high-altitude kilometer race. Peugeot will also make it comfier for drivers with an improved air conditioning system which help them cope with temperatures of up to 60 degrees for 12 hours a day.

 

Peugeot's driver lineup will be formed by this year's winner Stéphane Peterhansel, Carlos Sainz and Cyril Després. Sebastien Loeb will also have another attempt at winning the event in 2017.
