Ralf Schumacher has officially retired from professional motorsport and will not take part in the DTM for 2013. The former Formula 1 driver will take a management role at RSC Mücke Motorsport where he will primarily help develop drivers.

“I’ve been thinking a great deal about my future during the last few weeks and have reached the conclusion that I am better able to support the extensive changes at Mercedes-BenzMercedes-BenzMercedes-BenzGermany, 1924 > present197 models

Schumacher's first role with the team will be to help develop rookie DTM drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Daniel Juncadella. Wehrlein is the youngest driver in DTM history at 18.

Wehrlein moved from karting to the ADAC Formel Masters in 2010. He won the series championship in 2011. He moved up to Formula 3 in 2012 and raced in several regional championships for Mücke Motorsport. He was second place in the Formula 3 championship last season. He moves to the DTM for 2013.

“It’s like a dream come true, my promotion to the DTM. What’s especially nice is that I will be making my DTM debut with RSC Mücke Motorsport. I know Peter Mücke’s and Ralf Schumacher’s team already from previous years when I first competed for the outfit," said Wehrlein.

Juncadella has raced in Formula 3 since 2010 and moves to the DTM for this season. He won the Formula 3 championship last season.

Mercedes has the youngest team in DTM with an average driver age of 23 years old.

Schumacher won six grands prix in his Formula 1 career and competed in 54 DTM races and has raced professionally for over 20 years. He started his F1 career in 1997 for JordanJordan GPJordan GPUnited Kingdom, 1990 > 200410 models
