McLaren Pushing for Second Place in Constructors' Championship

McLaren is just 7 points a way from overtaking Ferrari

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton are not mathematically out of the fight for the World Drivers' Championship, but it would take a miracle for either one of them to win the title. However, the McLarenMcLarenMcLarenUnited Kingdom, 1963 > present92 models

team is just six points away from tying Ferrari for second place in the World Constructor's Championship with four races to go. The team says that it has not given up the season yet.

The team's goal is to win every remaining race, but Red Bull seems to be improving at the end of the season.

McLaren sporting director Sam Michael predicts that the best team will swing back and forth for the rest of the season.

"The gaps are very small now, so it only takes one or two tenths to swing from one way to another, and that can be driven off development working, or another team not bringing enough," said Michael.

One thing helping all of the teams is that next year's rules are very similar to this year's. That means that teams do not have to focus on next year's car like they usually would at this point in the season. The teams will be trying to develop the best components possible for their cars because what they learn will be carries over directly to next year.

"It's a pretty straightforward decision between 2012 and '13, because the rule changes for next year are quite small compared to what they would be for normal years," said Michael.

Michael predicts that to stay competitive at the top, teams have to improve their cars by 0.1 seconds to 0.15 seconds faster for each race.
