Pirelli Bringing Hardest Tire Compounds to Spa

The harder tires should make them more equal and more resilient to degradation

Pirelli is bringing its hardest tire compounds to the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa this weekend, which it says will allow drivers to push harder. The harder tires degrade more slowly than softer compounds, which should make tire strategy less of an issue than the rest of the season.

"From a tire perspective, it's certainly one of the most demanding circuits that we face all year, because of the high speeds and extreme forces involved, which are often acting on the tires in more than one dimension. The nomination of the hard and the medium tires will allow drivers to push hard from start to finish, which is what Spa was designed for," said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.

has said that it was working on new, more aerodynamic parts that will debut at the race. All of the other teams have been working to develop their cars during the break as well. It will be interesting to see if the top teams are still as equal as they were a month ago.
